Beginning in 1967 as a newsletter for the Los Angeles activist group Personal Rights in Defense of Education (PRIDE), The Advocate established itself as a serious publication of LGBTQ+ political and social issues and, to this day, features interviews with figures on a board range of topics, from Hillary Clinton to George Michael. In June of 1984, the publisher entered the realm of homoeroticism with its release of Advocate Men. Where The Advocate offered thought-provoking articles on health care and marriage equality, Advocate Men presented erotic short stories and sultry photos. The
second half of the June 1988 issue (see the first part here) contains spreads of models Cory Griffin, Joe Reeve, and Nash Yaeger, the
short story "A Spaceman's Love" (about a retired space captain's encounter with a young man), and advise on differing sexual drives between partners in an age-gap relationship.

Advocate Men (June 1988), Part One
Beginning in 1967 as a newsletter for the Los Angeles activist group Personal Rights in Defense of Education (PRIDE), The Advocate established itself as a serious publication of LGBTQ+ political and social issues and, to this day, features interviews with figures on a board range of topics, from Hillary Clinton to George Michael. In June of 1984, the publisher entered the realm of homoeroticism with its release of Advocate Men. Where The Advocate offered thought-provoking articles on health care and marriage equality, Advocate Men presented erotic short stories and sultry photos. The first half of the June 1988 issue, which has been broken into two parts, contains spreads of models Benjamin Cates and Evan Fletcher, a Donelan cartoon, an advertisement for the film Bi and Beyond, the short story "Tacoma" (about a young man who leaves New Jersey to reunite with his college friend in Washington), and reader-submitted stories of steamy sexual encounters at a summer resort in the Philippines and a radio station.

Unzipped (June 1999)
Like many publications that entered the world of homoerotica in the late 1990s and early 2000s, Unzipped experienced a brief life as the internet quickly replaced ink and paper with megapixels. Running for slightly over a decade, form 1997 to 2009, the publication, like [2] and Freshmen (also released by Specialty Publications), explored multiple aspects of the burgeoning gay adult film business, including industry gossip, conversations with adult entertainers, and video reviews. This June 1999 issue features tributes to Jason Branch and Cliff Parker, interviews with J.C Carter and Billy Herrington, and a glimpse into Dereck Bishop's exercise routine.
