Drummer (November 1982)
Whereas heterosexual society can freely develop its social-sexual network in the world at large, homosexual society, due to public disdain and persecution, must seek alternative venues in which to foster these connections. As a result, gay and lesbian bars, which provide individuals with a safe and secluded haven, have evolved into the primary social outlet for the homosexual community. In this November 1982 issue of Drummer, John Embry’s article discusses the realities of owning and operating one of these establishments, truthfully explaining how the trials and tribulations of running a successful business are often overlooked by patrons who only see the tantalizing glimmer of its nightly parties. Also included in this edition is coverage of Huston’s Mr. Leather competition, a Drum comic about a failed porn shoot, and an advertisement for the Stud Store.
