In
a 2017 study, Mori Gillath, Rebecca Griffith, Richard Martinez, and
Xian Zhao found gay men and lesbian women are more likely than their straight peers to remain
friends with a former romantic partner after the amorous relationship
ends. As the researchers contend, the small size of the homosexual
community prompts members to maintain bonds with previous paramours to
help preserve their limited access to social support networks and
communal security. The data of Gillath, Griffith, Martinez, and Zhao
gives scientific backing to a truth readily known within the community
and attested to in Brutus’ comic strip Grizzly Tales, which is included in this 2000 issue of Bear (broken into two parts). Contained in this second half (see the first half here) are photo
spreads of models Cal, Rob, and Tom.
