Like Dennis Decameron’s article “What Is This Things Called a Lover?” in the May 1987 issue of Torso, Donald Vining’s “The ‘Married’ Gays,” found in this June 1985 issue of Blueboy
(which has been broken into two parts), explores the concept of gay
partnership. Akin to Decameron, Vining contends sex is a primary focus
for married gay couples and it is rare for them to maintain monogamy,
with many having an open relationship. Yet, Vining also argues
that, in an era where marriage counseling was practically nonexistent for
gay men, married couples often compensated for this lack by serving as
counselors for other couples facing difficulties. Include in this
second half (see the first half here) is an article on the underground lives of Russian gays, a gay
trivia game, photos of models Michel, and a photo spread titled “Splendor in the
Grass.”
