In a 2007 article for the journal ADULTSPAN, psychologists Bob Barret, Mark Pope, Michael Rankins, and Edward Wierzalis discuss the emotional stress felt by aging gay men, claiming – unlike their heterosexual peers who experience elevated social and sexual status with age – gay men become diminished within the community due to its hyperfixation on youth. In this March 1991 issue of Heat (which has been broken into two parts), Jason McDonald’s article “Finding the Fountain of Youth” attests to these fears, offering readers a bevy of products and services to dial back the hands of time. Also included in this first half is the short story “Down by the Riverside” (about the narrator’s encounter with a skinny-dipping preacher) and photospreads titled “Hot ‘n’ Sassy,” “Island Boy,” and “Too Hot To Handle.”

Numbers (March 1983), Part One
Desire is a reoccurring theme in several of the short stories featured in this March 1983 issue of Numbers (which has been broken into two parts). In Max Exander’s “Diary of a Masochist,” the narrator chronicles his gradual emergence into masochism, a sexual fetish he has craved for years. Likewise, in Tor Idaho’s “Head Hunter,” the narrator longs for the sexual deprivation inflicted upon him by a priest while an adolescent. Also included in this first half is the short story “Body Buddy” (about the narrator’s encounter with a fellow tourist while on a bus ride in Mexico), a photospread titled “Bottom Up,” and images of models Brent and Eric.
