Heat (March 1991), Part One

In a 2007 article for the journal ADULTSPAN, psychologists Bob Barret, Mark Pope, Michael Rankins, and Edward Wierzalis discuss the emotional stress felt by aging gay men, claiming – unlike their heterosexual peers who experience elevated social and sexual status with age – gay men become diminished within the community due to its hyperfixation on youth. In this March 1991 issue of Heat (which has been broken into two parts), Jason McDonald’s article “Finding the Fountain of Youth” attests to these fears, offering readers a bevy of products and services to dial back the hands of time. Also included in this first half is the short story “Down by the Riverside” (about the narrator’s encounter with a skinny-dipping preacher) and photospreads titled “Hot ‘n’ Sassy,” “Island Boy,” and “Too Hot To Handle.”
