Mandate (April 1976)

In his article “Leather Sex,” found in this April 1976 issue of Mandate, Michael Llewellyn argues – contrary to popular belief – there is a distinction between leathersex and sadomasochism. As he explains, the two tend to get clustered together; however, leathersex can exist without the bondage, flogging, and other domination play of sadomasochism. In fact, Llewellyn claims leathersex is about the theatrics of role play as participants don costumes and personas that allow them to step outside of themselves. Also contained in this issue is a photospread titled “Decadent, Decidedly,” a showcase of Puerto-Rican artist Antonio’s work, and images of college athlete Julian Taylor. NOTE: THIS PARTICULAR ISSUE WAS FOUND INCOMPLETE AMONG THE BOXES OF MAGAZINES; HENCE, ITS SPARSE PRESENTATION.
