Drummer (December 1980), Part Two

As Jim Ward explains, the eroticism of fetishes often occurs more in the mind than the loins, with anticipation and fantasy driving this psychological response. In his article found in this December 1980 issue of Drummer (which has been broken into two parts), Ward explores this concept with the fetish of piercings, claiming part of the adornment’s appeal rests in the expected pleasure of pain. Contained in the second half (see the first half here) is a a Drum cartoon, information on the opening of the Drummer Club in San Francisco, and a photospread devoted to leather daddies.

Stars (December 1994)

By the 1990s, Stars, which distinguished itself from its peers with its focus on younger models, joined its homoerotic peers in pruning the number of lifestyle articles from its publications and concentrating predominately on photospreads. The December 1994 issue, in turn, is a prime example of this, with the short story “Do Fries Go with That Snake?” (about a fast-food worker’s late-night encounter with a cute customer) and a quiz about fragrances overpowered by photos of models Robby Ivers, Damon Paul, and others.
